Harrisburg – Pennsylvania vehicle owners can now show their support of veterans by purchasing the new “Honoring Our Veterans” license plate.
The plate, authorized by Act 194 of 2012, features an image of the American Flag and a Bald Eagle and contains the words “Honoring Our Veterans.”
“Patriotic-minded individuals frequently ask me how they can pay tribute to veterans or where they can donate a small amount of money that benefits veterans, and this new license plate is a great way to do just that," said Brig. Gen. (PA) Mike Gould, deputy adjutant general for veterans affairs with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. “More importantly, you don’t need to be a veteran to get one of these plates.”
The plate is available for passenger cars and light trucks up to 10,000 pounds and costs $35. Fifteen dollars from the sale of each license plate goes to the Veterans Trust Fund administered by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The funds will be used to support and assist Pennsylvania veterans and their families through grants to veterans service organizations and other charitable organizations.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation began issuing the new license plate in mid-January.

Governor Corbett Signs Legislation to Benefit PA Veterans
The Governor’s legislative package will:
- Finance the Veterans Trust Fund, which will receive $1.7 million after the sale of Scotland School for Veterans Children, and continue to grow, providing help and assistance for veterans.
- Encourage the commonwealth to contract with veteran-owned small businesses.
- Create a “V” designation on Pennsylvania Driver Licenses, which will allow veterans to qualify for discounts or other benefits.
- Update the Pennsylvania Code of Military Justice, giving commanders more effective options in dealing with military offenses.
- Simplify and provide uniformity to the registration and absentee ballot process for uniformed service voters and overseas civilian voters for all elections within the state.
- Establish special license plates for World War II veterans of the U.S. Merchant Marine and for all veterans of U.S. Military Airborne Units.
- Enable the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission to provide training for all police officers in the state to recognize and interact with veterans and other individuals suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury.

Couples Sleep Study
Researchers at University of Pittsburgh are investigating how sleep affects relationships and health in military couples. Couples may be eligible if you are:
- Married or living together
- Between the ages of 18-45
- At least one member has served in OEF/OIF/OND
- Both members are willing to participate

Veterans Housing Initiative
As part of Habitat for Humanity's Critical Home Repair and A Brush With Kindness, the Veteran Housing Initiative is a program designated for our community heroes by providing an opportunity to serve together, provide community reintegration, and provide access to quality, affordable housing. This program invites Veterans and their families to apply for necessary home repairs or modifications including interior and exterior accessibility modifications.

We intend to recall memory from depression years of the 20's and 30's among our older veterans and bring them forward to link and educate younger veterans and the general public to the full cultural impact of this history on our nation and individual lives.
