Caseworkers Honored for Excellence

Two caseworkers for the Department of Human Services (DHS) Office of Children, Youth and Families (CYF) were honored on April 11 with awards recognizing their professional excellence. Renee Taddy, in the South Regional Office, received the Champion of Children Award, and Susan Marcone, at the Lexington Intake Office, received the Distinction of Excellence awards. The awards are given annually to staff members who go above and beyond requirements in doing their jobs.

The honors are given in conjunction with Family Resources, one of the largest child abuse prevention agencies in western PA. They were presented by CYF Deputy Director Walter H. Smith Jr., PhD., at the Family Resources luncheon held at Hill House Association.

Renee was lauded for her ability to calmly handle complex and challenging cases with a no-nonsense approach. “Renee maintains an excellent working knowledge of her cases,” Walter said in presenting the award. “She has been able to engage and motivate clients to achieve their goals.”

Susan’s dedication to children and families shows every day as she volunteers to stay late when intake coverage is needed and take on tasks that need completion. Her empathy in dealing with consumers and her efficient work in helping them made her stand out among nominees for the Distinction award. “Susan has an uncanny ability to offer a kind word of encouragement and support at the right time,” Walter said.
