The Link Helps Spread
the Word About the ACA
The Department of Human Services (DHS) Allegheny Link to
Aging and Disability Resources (The Link) was among the sponsors of a Town Hall
Forum on the Affordable Care Act, held Oct. 2 at the University Club in Oakland.
More than 300 people turned out to hear and ask questions of
a panel that included Dr. Karen Hacker, Director of the Allegheny County Health
Department, and representatives of health plans, consumer advocacy and
Besides The Link, sponsors were the University of
Pittsburgh’s Schools of Social Work and Law and the Allegheny County APPRISE
Program (the State Health Insurance Assistance Program).

resources for Excela Health Systems; William McKendree, APPRISE counselor; Dr.
Karen Hacker, director of the Allegheny County Health Department; and Joe
Elliott, Community Programs Manager at the Allegheny Link. Ms. D’Amico and Dr.
Hacker were among panel speakers. Mr. McKendree moderated the panel and Mr. Elliott
helped organize the forum.
