DHS Conferencing and Teaming Institute Established
Another Step toward Advancing Integration at DHS
On April 1, a celebration was held for the launching of the DHS Conferencing and Teaming Institute. The Institute was created in order to support the use of the Conferencing and Teaming model as a core practice across all service delivery areas within DHS.
A celebratory “champagne” toast (sparkling cider) kicked off the festivities. More than 100 attendees heard remarks from DHS leaders such as Pat Valentine and Walter Smith and success stories from individuals who participated in the Conferencing and Teaming pilot. The Institute’s eight Peer Coach Specialists were also introduced.
In the week leading up to the launch, the peer coaches held several team building activities, including salsa dancing and meditation exercises. Salsa dancing participants were reminded of the parallels between dancing and their partnerships with individuals and families served by DHS. Meditation exercises offered ways to schedule self-care sessions within a busy workday.
The Institute is now supporting CYF Central Regional Office staff as they begin to implement the DHS Conferencing and Teaming.
