KUDOS: NAMI Walk
Thanks to the support of staff, the DHS team experienced great success at the 2012 NAMIWalk of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Led by co-captains Aurelia Carter-Scott, family support specialist in the Office of Behavioral Health (OBH), and Terri Reighard, systems integration specialist in the Executive Office, the team collected more than $1,800, exceeding the initial goal of $1,000. Additionally, around 20 people participated in the walk that was held on October 14.
“It was so great to see the cross-departmental participation in supporting this worthy cause,” said Terri. “We not only raised more than $1,800 for NAMI, but got to meet some committed, caring colleagues that I didn’t know before in a fun and purposeful way.”
“It was great to have staff representing many of the DHS offices this year to walk for a cause that has either touched us personally, or professionally working with children, youth, consumers and families. It was also great to have some of our own family members come out and walk with us as well. Thanks to everyone who participated in any way,” said Aurelia.
All of the funds collected will go directly to NAMI, a national organization that works to eliminate stigma about mental illness and provides support for consumers and families.
