‘We Rock’ Supports the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund
In 2011, DHS contracted with Creative.Life.Support, the nonprofit arm of Mr. Smalls Funhouse, to create the We Rock Workshop, a residency program led by Liz Berlin of Rusted Root that teaches foster youth to open up creatively through music. Since its inception, the group has donated proceeds from their performances at Mr. Smalls Funhouse to the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund (ACMFF), which provides life-enriching items, services and opportunities to children and youth receiving services through DHS and Juvenile Probation. This year alone, the Workshop donated more than $500 to the fund.
Recently, the We Rock Workshop – along with Jaira, Lightning Box, The Red Western and local favorite Rusted Root – performed at the 13th annual Allegheny County Music Festival, held August 26 at Hartwood Acres. Both the concert itself and event raffles raised a total of $24,000 which will be used to replenish the ACMFF.
