Candidates “Stand Up” for Local Youth
Political candidates from local races found common ground during the fifth annual Candidates’ Comedy Night held Thursday, August 16 at the Pittsburgh Improv. The evening of fun and fundraising allowed candidates to show off their hidden talents in a benefit for the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund (ACMFF).
The event included special guest Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald who performed along with U.S. Senator Bob Casey; U.S. Representative Mike Doyle; U.S. Representative Tim Murphy; State Treasurer Robert McCord; State Senator Jay Costa, Jr.; State Representative Matt Smith; Commissioner Larry Maggi; Commissioner Diana Irey Vaughan; Kathleen Kane; Dr. Hans Lessmann and Raja. Gene Collier, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette columnist, stand-up comic, corporate speaker and playwright, returned as the master of ceremonies to keep the festivities running smoothly with his own comedic style.
“We are grateful to this year’s esteemed line-up of performers for giving of their time and talents to make the fifth annual Candidates’ Comedy Night a success,” said Ondréa Burton, event and donations manager in the Office of Community Relations (OCR). “Through their efforts and the generosity of many of our community partners, nearly $40,000 was raised to aid children through the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund.”
Celebrating its fifth anniversary, Candidates’ Comedy Night is one of the major fundraisers for the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund that benefits children served by the Department of Human Services and/or the Juvenile Section of the Family Division of the Court of Common Pleas.
