KUDOS: Joanne Podgorski
Joanne Podgorski, Caseworker Supervisor for the Area Agency on Aging, recently received glowing praise from a mobile social worker for a managed care company.
The mobile social worker (who prefers anonymity) had a referral for a patient with a disability who received attendant care in his home and needed to find alternative housing.
The mobile social worker called Joanne, who researched the consumer’s eligibility for nursing home care under Medicaid. Joanne told the mobile social worker that the consumer would need to be reassessed before he could be placed. The next day when the social worker called Joanne with an update, Joanne had already allocated a spot for the consumer to be assessed within 24 hours. The consumer was placed in a skilled facility that day as a result of Joanne’s quick work.
“I was very impressed by Joanne’s professionalism and dedication to her work,” said the mobile social worker. “Not only did she help our health plan, she helped the patient and his family to enable him to get proper care.”
