Project Prom Continues to Impress
Since 2003, Project Prom has been providing stylish prom dresses and accessories to young women who receive DHS services. This year, the Project Prom store, located at Century III Mall in West Mifflin, served over 200 high school students. Visitors were happily surprised to see such a wide selection of dresses and accessories available in the store.
Alexis, a junior at a local high school, was among the young women who visited the 2012 Project Prom shop in search of the perfect dress. “I figured the store would be small and I wouldn’t be able to find anything I liked since I’m not a girlie girl,” she said. “It was nothing like I thought! Within 15 minutes of entering the store, the Project Prom volunteers knew me well enough to pick out dresses that fit my personality. I’m leaving today with not just my dream dress, but shoes, jewelry and lip gloss. It was a great experience.”
Young men do not have to worry about missing the Project Prom fun: new to 2012 is the extended Project Prom for Gentlemen program. On April 5, 12, 19 and 26, eligible young men will gather at the Human Services Building for a catered meal where they will learn formal meal etiquette, how to tie a bow tie and how to be a good date on prom night. After the dinner, participants will receive an on-site tuxedo fitting and a voucher for a free tuxedo rental.
