Izzazu Day of Beauty

On Sunday, February 19th, ten individuals involved with DHS participated in a Day of Beauty. Event attendees gathered downtown at Izzazu Salon | Spa | Serata, where they received their choice of two gratis services. Finger food and desserts donated by the Common Plea restaurant added to the festive nature of the event.

"At Izzazu, our philosophy has always been "give to live...and live to give." We believe it's important to help people in need and their caregivers because of the special part they both play within our community," said Emilio Cornacchione, salon co-owner.

While the salon is normally closed on Sunday, eight caring staff members came in on their day off to pamper the Day of Beauty participants with haircuts and color, facials, manicures, massages, eyebrow and upper lip waxing, and makeup applications. All of the stylists felt that being a part of both the physical and emotional transformations of the participants was extremely rewarding.

“As a single mom, I put all of my extra money to my son, and paying to get my hair done is not in my budget. Having professionals cut and style my hair made me feel so good inside,” said Crystal, a Day of Beauty participant. “It was just the motivation I needed, and I know my excitement and enthusiasm rubbed off those around me.”

All of the Day of Beauty participants have faced challenging life circumstances, and were flattered that local businesses would donate their time and resources to create such a special event for them.

Over the past 15 years, supportive community partners have added a great deal of value to the work of DHS, most especially in efforts to assist consumers with needs that fall outside of government funding. The Izzazu Day of Beauty is the first time a salon has provided such pampering, beautifying services.
