DHS staff members receive praise from a grateful family

Two DHS staff recently received thanks from a grateful family for their extraordinary efforts to help the family “get back on track.”

Amanda Thompson, a CYF caseworker in the Wrap Around Unit and Ashley Hartman, a DHS Youth Support Partner, along with two staff from the Allegheny Family Network, were praised by the mother of two children for the extra time and effort they invested, for being easy to talk to, honest and open and for “allow[ing] our family to be ourselves at all times.”

According to the mother, the family has been involved with several caseworkers and agencies over the past three years, with limited success. She credits Ms. Hartman and Ms. Thompson with “think[ing] outside the box” and approaching the family’s issues in a different way. As a result, her relationship with her children has improved, her daughter is communicating more openly and “this will be the first Christmas in quite a few years that our family will genuinely enjoy each other.”

Every day, DHS employees like Ms. Hartman and Ms. Thompson go above and beyond their job descriptions to help families improve their relationships and increase family stability. Recognition from families is a concrete reminder to DHS staff that our efforts are working and appreciated.
